First Line Fridays: Better Together

Hooray for Fridays! And welcome to a special Mother’s Day edition of First Line Fridays here at Hoarding Books!

I’m just a cool-aunt (and we totally need our own day too!), but all the other members of the HB4 (the four bloggers who make up Hoarding Books) are moms – and they are great moms! So here’s a shoutout to the moms of littles and not-so-littles-anymore, to grandmas and mimis and nanas, and yes even to the cool aunts! Thank you for loving the next generation & helping them grow up into young men and women of character!

And now on to the business at hand… First Lines!

Better Together by Kimberly Stuart

“I wasn’t sure who was more stunned, the twenty-two five-year-olds gripping their new Land’s End and Pottery Barn lunchboxes or the parents who had started this fiasco in the first place.”

  1. Tomorrow is my first baby’s 18th birthday, so Mother’s Day isn’t yet on my horizon 🙂

I’m currently reading Just Let Go by Courtney Walsh, a romance about a woman wanting to reconnect with the mother who abandoned her years ago. But the first line is from the viewpoint of the hero:

    He shouldn’t be here.
A diner in some little tourist town in Michigan was no place for Grady Benson, but here he was.

    Have a great weekend!

  2. I’m just a cool-aunt, too – at least I hope my nieces and nephews think I’m cool! (I think on niece totally does because she’s loves reading, too, and we talk about books!!!)

I just finished Winning Miss Winthrop by Carolyn Miller and the first line is “The deeply blue Gloucestershire sky brought comfort as Catherine Winthrop emerged from the tenant farmhouse.”

  3. My daughter is almost as big a reader as I am – and I love it!

My first lines come from Casey L. Bonds newest fairy tale retelling Unlocked.

“Once upon a time, in a land far away, and in the time of fairies, there was a kingdom ravaged by a deadly plague. Fueled by magic, it swept over the land without mercy and the people of Paruth fell swiftly and violently ill.”

  4. The book I’m sharing on my blog is Unblemished by Sara Ella but I’m currently reading called The Road Home by Beverly Lewis. I shared the first line last week so I’ll share the first line of chapter 22 where I am right now: ” The next morning, after the four o’clock milking and a nice hot breakfast, Mimi suggested Harley take a lemon pound cake over to Abram Mast’s for his birthday.” Cake anyone? 😛 (I actually don’t like it though lol).

  5. My first line Friday is from a book I have not read yet, it is setting on my TBR table by my reading chair.

Land of my Dreams by Norma Gail.
Bonny Bryant knew it was crazy to even think about a man when she was headed for Scotland.

My two sons are grown, one married and I have one 13 year old grandson! Goodness, how did that happen!?! 🙂
    blessings, Tina
