Prologue
Jericho 1406 BC

The priest’s kohl-lined eyes glazed over as he held the iron brand in the center of cedar-fueled flames. Pressing my back against the column I was tied to, I clawed my nails into the wood.

  1. What a first line. Definitely tempts me to keep reading.

Four years to the day after the alien planet arrived above Earth, Sofi’s papa had collapsed on the rickety front porch of their buttermilk-yellow farmhouse. –Reclaiming Shilo Snow by Mary Weber

  2. Love that first line! I’m hoping to make this one of my next reads!

I’m featuring “The Saturday Night Supper Club” by Carla Laureano on the blog today, but my first line here will be the book I’m currently reading, “Across the Blue” by Carrie Turansky.

Isabella Grayson’s shoes sank into the plush red carpet of Broadlands’ south hall, and she released a soft sigh. What luxury!

Happy reading and have a wonderful weekend!

  3. I’m going to share the first line from Part 1 Chapter 1 of Jocelyn Green’s “A Refuge Assured”
She should be used to this by now, the way skin exposed to cold eventually lost feeling.

  4. Definitely makes you want to find what happens next or shiver.

Okay, it was official. She was lost.
Sighing in frustration, Bekah Holloway squinted through the branches alongside the isolated country road she was currently on, hunting for a sign to tell her where she was.

  5. I loved this one. I didn’t realize what I was getting into when I started it and almost hit pause on the audiobook and stuck it out and really enjoyed it. My current read is not CF, so no First Line this week. However, I did just realize a new Kimberly Rae Jordan book came out, so I’ll be starting that ASAP.

  6. I just got my copy of this book! I am so excited to read it. I love Connilyn Cossette’s writing. She is SO good.

Over on my blog, I am featuring Heather B. Moore’s novel, Worth the Risk. I am very excited to read that book. It sounds like it will be a lot of fun.

Here, I will post from the novel I am currently reading, A Refuge Assured by Jocelyn Green. It is an AMAZING story that I am enjoying wholeheartedly. I am just starting chapter 29, so I will share the first two lines from this chapter.

    Asylum, Pennsylvania
    July 1795

Still damp with morning’s dew, the cool earth soiled Vivienne’s apron as she knelt in her garden, tugging weeds from between iris and yarrow. Geese soared overhead, soft brown chevrons against a sky of robin’s-egg blue.

  7. Wow! That first line is one heck of a hook!

My first line comes from Traded by Tess Thompson – “The came for her on a Sunday. It was third quarter with two minutes left on the clock in a savage battle between football rivals San Francisco Sharks and Kansas City Rockets when the sounds that would change her life forever broke through the ordinary chirps of the television announcers.”

  8. I love these lines and the cover! They remind me of some Barbara Wood novel that I read years ago. I will comment on all the links tomorrow as today I had a sweet reading date 😉 My first lines: “”Tell me a story.” Grandma smiled through a mess of wrinkles and brushed a lock of wavy blonde hair off my brow. “Another? Three books weren’t enough?”
“Not a book story. One of your stories.”

  9. Hadn’t heard of this one yet; will definitely be on the lookout for it now!

I just finished and reviewed “Blessed are the Misfits” by Brant Hansen. It was PHENOMENAL.

“Warning: If the American church culture makes perfect sense to you and you fit in seamlessly, don’t read this. Seriously, return it immediately, before you spill something on this book and can’t get a full refund. Because this book is for the rest of us.”

I know that’s a bit more than a line, but it was just so fitting for the book that I had to share the whole blurb!

Bella has visited many lovely homes in London after her presentation at court and the rounds of balls and dinner parties during her first two seasons, but she’d never seen a more lavish home tha Broadlands, her family’s new country estate.

  13. I loved this one! Almost like Biblical suspense!

I’m featuring Jennifer Rodewald’s Valentine’s Day novella on my blog, but at the moment I’m refreshing my memory on Mary Weber’s The Evaporation of Sofi Snow:

“The ice-planet arrived in the dusky heat of summer twilight during Earth’s Fourth World War.”
